아프리카 교회 컨텍스트에서 문제의식을 가지고 쓰여진 책. 쉽고 일반적인 내용을 담고 있지만, 아프리카 교회 많은 목회자들이 목자가 아닌 엔터테이너로 강단에 서는 것을 우려하고 있는 저자의 호소를 읽을 수 있다. 아프리카 상황 가운데 드러나 있는 영적 전쟁에서도 설교의 역할을 논한 것이 인상적이다. 문학 장르별 설교법을 단순 명료하게 정리한 것도 간단한 차모가 될 수 있어 좋다. 영적인 전쟁설교자로서 어떻게 성장할 수 있는지 자세한 조언을 담고 있는데 랭함에서 가르쳐지고 있는 내용인 것 같다.

Matthew 28:18-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. 

Pastor preaching and evangelistic preaching is different. However, pastors are called to do both. An evangelistic sermon can have an application for believers and our sermon meant for believers can include it on evangelistic appeal. However, the point I want to make is that a church that survives only on evangelistic preaching every Sunday will end up with malnourished believers. 15

2 Timothy 4:3-5
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 

If the pastors see themselves more as entertainers than shepherds, many Christians are spiritually weak and vulnerable to false teachings. 22

We said earlier that good preaching is more caught than taught. This is not only true when a person is sitting under the ministry of a pastor in their formative years; it is also true in later years when one is already in pastoral ministry. .... whereas ordinary Christians will be seeking only to learn the lessons in the sermons they hear, you will be seeking to learn the communication strategies as well. You will be listening to the technical side of the sermons so that you can learn a few lessons to improve your own preaching. Listen to how other preachers introduce their sermons to see how you can be more effective in capturing the attention of your hearers at the start of your sermons. take note of the way they transition from one point to another, and how they logically argue their points. Pay careful attention to their ability to turn the ears of their listeners into eyes by using illustrations and the like. Observe the way they apply their sermons and bring them to a powerful close. See what you can glean from all this to improve your own sermon delivery. Even when you listen to a very poor sermon, you can learn what not to do in your own preaching. 90-91
