One of the remarkable things that meets us in the Gospels is the flurry of demonic activity… This is not accidental. If Jesus Christ came primarily to destroy the works of the devil, if his arrival on the scene was the signal for the final battle to begin, then it is not so surprising that Satan should be stirred to wrath. But the climax of it all came at the cross. That was the fixed battle between Christ and Satan. That was the turning point of the whole war. When the victors in the Book of Revelation are exulting in the power they have over the Evil One, it is “the blood of the Lamb” which is the ground for their triumph… (209)

The early Christians were a threat to Satan because they were always reaching out in service and evangelism making Christ known in the very strongholds of the Enemy. They were confident of the gospel. (251)
