David H. Adeney, “A Light to the Nation,”
Vision and Continuity in Our Time, FES Singapore, 2009
Our eyes were upon the world and even though the IFES had not yet been born we were conscious that we were part of a student movement which must reach out to universities in every nation. (14)
We must always think of IFES in relation to God’s overall purpose for His church. In every generation of students, God is calling out a people for Himself including those who will be leaders in His church. (16)
If IFES is to fulfill the task committed to her by the Lord, student leaders and staff workers must be men and women of vision who can communicate the call that has come to them to others. The biblical call in the Scripture always starts with the vision of the Lord, His authority and His holiness… A superficial knowledge of the Saviour will always result in a weak sense of vocation. (16-17)
Christian students need to spend much more time considering how their lives can count for the kingdom of God. Instead of drifting into a profession, they should think through how God would have them use the skills and gifts that He has given them. (17)
